Home-base vs Office-base: What’s the Difference?

Every individual has their preferred work setting. There are some who are more productive working in the office, and some, who can work well at home.

Working from home has been the current trend in some industries, especially with the rapid advancement of technology. Being connected online allow team members to communicate instantaneously beyond geographical boundaries.

The are of course benefits to both work setup, here are some important issues when comparing office-based work and working from home.

Getting to work

The morning routine is a hassle for office workers as they need to allot at least 2 hours before they go through the rush hour just to get to work on time. Home-based workers on the other hand, can get up a few minutes before the start of their working hours, turn on their computer and start working.

Clocking off

Flexible working hours are a double-edged sword. Office workers have a strict time to observe which allows them to do other important matters. They do not have to worry about work once they reach home. On the other hand, most home-based workers having flexible hours may need to extend hours just to meet client deadlines.

Clothing

Most office workers require their employees to be in uniform or business attire, and some others are okay with smart casual to look presentable in front of the people that they work with. Work from home, on the other hand, allows anyone to wear anything that they want, as long as they are not required to check in through the webcam.

Work noise and environment

Often times, silence must be observed in the office. This allows them to focus more on their work. On the contrary, having to work at home would mean that they don’t always control your workspace as they sometimes encounter unexpected difficulties that may distract them. This is the reason why they must have a dedicated workspace where they can be productive.

Someone is watching you

In the office, all the employees are easily checked by their supervisors. Work from home doesn’t have this case. Although one of the disadvantages of home-based is that supervisors doesn’t see the hard work that they put into some tasks and are often being judged with tangible results only.
